Educational Background and Professional Experiences
Undergraduate Degree:
Life in Minnesota was wonderful and cold. After receiving her Bachelor degree at Concordia College (http://www.cord.edu/), Moorhead, Minnesota, Dr. So-Lloyd completed an internship at Catholic Family Services in Fargo, North Dakota. During this time, she was under the supervision of several seasoned social workers and counselors in working with the Southeast Asian refugee population, married couples and adoption services. She traveled and presented at workshops on media and sexuality.
Graduated Degree:
Dr. So-Lloyd received her Masters degree in Social Work (http://socialwork.ou.edu/) at the University Of Oklahoma, Norman, Oklahoma. She relocated to Tulsa Oklahoma where she had an opportunity to work with many foster and adoptive families. She was a trainer on the many subjects for preparing foster/adoptive children and the impacts on the families. Meanwhile she volunteered her service at an agency specialized in the international adoption.
With the purpose to further her professional training, Dr. So-Lloyd decided to seek a doctorate in Counseling Psychology (http://education.okstate.edu/counseling-psychology-program-overview) at Oklahoma State University, Stillwater, Oklahoma. (This is an accredited program by the American Psychological Association http://www.apa.org.) During this time, Dr. So-Lloyd was blessed to learn from many experienced psychologists to deepen her clincial skills in cognitive therapy, hypnosis, neuro-psychological services, assessments, marriage issues, etc.
Mentorship
Speaking on impacting the next generation, Dr. So-Lloyd also helps with training the future counselors. She is an adjunct faculty for some local universities for primarily graduate students in counseling and psychology.
She has taught the subjects on Family and Marriage Counseling, Ethics and Professional Studies, Group Counseling, Multicultural Psychology, Organizational Psychology, etc.
She enjoys speaking on the subjects of mental health, parenting, strengthening relationship, multi-cultural marriages/families, etc.
